The National Lottery (Lotto) is the purest form of ‘luck of the draw’. Players are given the opportunity to become instant multi-millionaires twice a week when six numbers and a Bonus Ball are randomly drawn. That said, some numbers appear far more often than others. At StrikeWild, we’ve analysed all draws from January to November 2024, identifying which numbers have appeared most and least frequently.

All data is accurate as of November 14, 2024.

Key Findings:

  • 48 and 11 are the most common number in the National Lottery, having been drawn 15 times this year.
  • 46, 55 and 30 have been drawn just five times this year, making them the least common Lotto numbers in 2024 so far. On average, it has appeared once every 18 draws.
  • 28 is the most common Bonus Ball, having been drawn five times this year, but is one of the least common main draw balls, appearing there only seven times this year.
  • The most ‘overdue’ number is 46, having not been drawn since July 3, 133 days ago. The next most ‘overdue’ is 24, which last appeared in the following draw on July 3rd, 130 days ago.
  • 48, 25, 11, 29, 41 and 45 would be the ticket of the most common numbers this year.

Having been drawn 15 times this year, 48 stands out on its own at the top of the table of most commonly drawn numbers in the Lotto in 2024. It’s on a bit of a cold streak of late however, having been drawn only three times since August.

It’s a two-way tie for second place between 25 and 11 with 14 draws in 2024. 11 has been drawn three times in the last month after a long absence between August 7 and October 13, while 25 hasn’t been seen since September 4.

46, 55, and 30 are tied for the least common Lotto numbers this year, having only been drawn four times in 2024. After a very quiet first nine months of the year, being drawn just twice from January to September, 55 is on a relative hot streak with three appearances since September 14, while 46 is the most ‘overdue’ number in the Lotto - unseen since July 3.

In Chinese culture, 8 is seen as the luckiest number and is associated with wealth, but it hasn't provided much fortune for Lotto players, considering it has only been drawn nine times this year.

What About the Bonus Ball?

The Bonus Ball is an additional number which is drawn at the end of every Lotto game after the six main numbers from the remaining 53 undrawn numbers. Players don’t select a bonus number, but it gives them a second chance to win a better prize. If you match five of the six numbers without the bonus ball, the prize is £1,750, while the prize for matching five plus the Bonus Ball is £1 million.

28 has been the most common Bonus Ball this year, having been drawn five times. The next most common Bonus Ball numbers are 17, 2, 55 and 54, which have all been drawn four times in 2024.

There have been 14 numbers that haven’t been drawn as Bonus Balls yet this year: 3, 57, 8, 38, 52, 11, 50, 14, 15, 31, 21, 26, 20 and 1.

Methodology

In November 2024, we went through the National Lottery Archive to see every Lotto draw from this calendar year. We counted the amount of times each ball was drawn in the main number draw and the Bonus Balls to find the most and least common lottery numbers in 2024 so far.
